Unfortunatly working unpaid overtime is very common in japan... I guess that there are maybe some companies, that pay overtime hours, but a lot of them don't

I used to work in japanese company. When we weren't finished the office work on time. We stayed 30 minutes more and sometimes exceed 1 hour just to finished it. We called it TY. And it's not paid.

It's super hard especially me who's not fluent in english. In every meeting I need to speak english since our bosses is all japanese. And japanese people are all early. I remember my japanese boss always arrived early they started working even if it's not yet time for work. They are very dedicated and well good looking since one of our boss, our procurement asst manager he's also japanese is good looking. Actually, I have a crush on him not just me but also my office mates. We always see him since his office table is near with us and no barrier. Unfortunately, he already have a wife and a kid. There's also a tradition and already given.since I worked there, we need to say good bye or bye bye to the japanese bosses before leaving, it's automatic. And if there are god thing happened in the company like sales going up, the bosses always treated us to eat outside in a fancy restaurant or sometimes to drink. Japanese people love to sing especially karaoke, although we didn't understand since it's japanese. It's fun working there since there are so.many benifits but at the same time super hard really, very stressful, and always under pressure.

I’m glad you asked because death by overwork (過労死) is a real thing in Japan and it’s honestly not fun. I left the country after university because I love having my personal life. Last year I went to visit a friend and she arrives home around 11PM everyday. We arranged to dine out one evening, she ended up staying at work until almost 10 so we abandoned the original plan and grabbed some sushi before heading home. A senpai of mine used to sleep at work 3 days a week because it’s more time-efficient than going home at midnight. These days it’s slowly getting better, I have other friends who don’t have to overtime a lot and companies are being held responsible for overworking employees, but it’s nowhere good enough.
