It seems like he doesn't know he is a demon, and most likely a high ranking one too
It's the same as if someone had just sent Harry Potter directly to Hogwarts one day, for the very first time, without anyone explaining it to him beforehand that he was a wizard, or what a wizard even was... etc etc.
