I think it's more like a contract u make with one another. Something like: a vampire makes a contract with a human do be his link. So the vampire can only suck his link's blood or should only suck his blood (so the link is his stable source of blood income) and on the contrary the link gets I dunno maybe a longer life span to be able to provide the vampire with his blood (since vampires live longer than humans) or he gets some special power to be able to protect the vampire as well or at least be on par with him. So what I guess is that the vampire once formed a link with that dude even tho his blood probably tasted like shit and he didn't really use his link. The link was okay w that as long as there was no other "human" competition. But now the vampire found a human that suits his tastes and his link fears that this human might take that place (being the link) away from him and with that he (the link) would be discarded. Loose his power or status or whatever privilege comes with that link contract
