I don't think it was done with bad intentions though, wasn't he just wanting to spend time with her? It seemed like he was telling her he came to their meeting rather than demanding tea. The times depicted also make it seem like the wife attends to the husband, very old-timey. He even calls her "my wife".
Yeah I agree, for all we know he was working and didn't know she was in the state she was in and took a break to go have tea with her, I mean he went in, said he wanted to have tea with her but after seeing her condition offered to remedy her rather than demanding tea or just leaving.
