It actually continues even further from there, and it's revealed he doesn't die. It's a huge drag at that point, and I dropped. But the one thing the novel did right was the finger breaking / torture scene which made me queasy but was also mildly fucking funny (yes an oxymoron) iirc. If anyone's interested in the plot, read at NU, cause the novel does it more justice, but this was also a while back for me.
