I have experience with my close friend being abused and she was honestly too trusting and got hurt often, that behavior is normal due to having a feeling of wanting someone to treat you kindly that as soon as the Duke showed them that kindness when everyone else was glaring, they trusted him like a warm blanket in the cold you know? It would've been the same for the imperial prince and king but the mother kept telling them their shit and are worthless for not pleasing the king so yeah they never trusted them from the start well they were gonna but you know shit happened ╮(. ❛ ᴗ ❛.)╭
