As a turkish person, i do not want to hide my nationality but i don't usually go around exposing it, I've seen a lot of manga/manhwa/manhua about this "harem" thingy.
I'm really worried to say something wrong about it, since i'll be introducing my kin wrongly. That really scares me but i hate seeing how mangakas, authors, and people misunderstands this system, and shows it just like how they see or imagine, without any research.
What i admire most about mangas, books, animes, novels and all those stuff created is that when authors, creators, don't know about a subject, and decide on a project with a plot, they do some researches which makes them an expert about what they've written about and makes them amazing with achieving it just while creating a project! But when they don't, it might offend people, u know? Tbh it disturbs me. So here we go about some knowledge i know.
In the harem system, the sultan enters the harem through his wife's room. Inside of the harem, everyone is given a room, good things to eat, baths in hammams every morning, and education most importantly. A woman from harem knows and reads, and plans (since they have to to higher in ranks.)
It is true that sometimes there are woman that die without even seeing the sultand or any other man... But if there are woman like that they can be married to other important people.
Most importantly, Sultans "don't rape."
One last thing i'd like to add, women from harem has a very bif influence over the sultan, since they read and write, learn about the country, they give the sultan ideas about how to rule the country, and those ideas are "important" to the sultan. They're not just some abject, to please the emperor, but all of the women the emperor calls have that kind of a value. Which is why the sultans mother, Haseki Sultan has to check inside of the harem so no one would give the emperor wrong ideas and harm him.
The mothers of sultans are very important as well. Sultan's have to get approved by their mothers in all ways.
I can't really say i am an expert in this kind of a subject but i just saw so many of this kind with so many wrong impressions that i couldn't just stop myself... Ofc there are some people in history that abused their power but.. Which country's history doesn't have such poeple in them?! As well as not all muslims are bad people, not all christians are good people, not all jehudas are not harmful, u shouldn' be prejudiced no matter what that persons nationality or color or religion is. The same goes for history as well..
