I get what you mean..to be respectful of people's choices, but it's a kind of much more older setting. I don't think it'd be a concept back then.
But it doesn't seem like Souma in particular wants to be, and I think Matilda picks up that vibe.
What if she wanted to be a boy? Isn’t giving them a dress and claiming their a girl, offensive? At least ask if she is forced or willing don’t just assume. :(
