In Japanese the word for 'siblings' is 'kyoudai'. Written in Japanese, this word is made up of the characters for 'big-brother' and 'little-brother'. It's original meaning is: "brothers". But as Japanese does not have a direct word for "siblings", and they are very much a patriarchal society, the word for 'brothers' doubles as the word for 'siblings'. In this case, the child with the pig-tails is clearly a girl. The translator didn't pick up on this subtle, context-only difference in meaning. A pretty easy mistake to make.

    Hope that helps~ :)
