Maybe the Fat King just doesn't care whichever of his Sons succeeds the throne.
Moreover, the Duke was caught by surprise while the Prince have already been plotting it from the start.
But I also find it lame that the Duke, a war hero, was easily beaten. Like where are the Duke's aids (other nobles)? Why did he not think of this scenarios when He himself know how lunatic the Prince is? Duke should've calculated and planned better since He has been in war at such a young age.

To think that the most powerful duke has no power to save his wife because of that lunatic and childish crown prince is plain stupid. That emperor doesnt know who killed his first son and yet his sitting there like he owns the world when in fact he is raising a snake
