estrella’s mother died while giving birth. so memories of her was when she was still in her mother’s womb. when the mother died everything about her was forgotten too.
Her mother belongs to a special tribe who are descendants of a god. The god lives on through people’s memories, so if people forget him he dies and when he dies people forget him. Of course, only people’s memories of him are forgotten, records and stuff about him are still there. Similarly, the tribe her mom is part of are forgotten once they die (records of them are still there though, which is how the emperor found out about her again).
The reason her mom died was because people in the tribe aren’t allowed to have children with people who aren’t also descendants of the god (aka fellow tribe members), so she died soon after giving birth to her daughter, which led to her being forgotten and the start of our story!
Estrella was also forgotten since everyone’s memory of her mother was wiped they also forgot about Estrella.
The emperor finds out about her again after meeting Estrella and she calls him her father. He goes through old records and finds out that he did in fact have a child with Estrella’s mom. The librarian/record keeper was the one who told him about the tribe her mom was a part of and why nobody could remember her.
