Just because shes afraid doesnt make her weak. That just makes her human and it takes a strong individual to admit to their fears and face them.
I think she's suddenly having these doubts about herself because all of these aren't in the novel. Like, before she's confident about what she's doing because she knows the flow of the novel and she's just living the life that the author wrote for the original Maise, but now, she's living her life and she isn't sure about the future anymore because the story went off on a different course. If that makes sense. I don't think she's a "stupid weak character" I think her character was just fleshed out and she showed a different side of her, a more humane side. (=・ω・=)
