Don't compare Kuon to that scum of a step brother. Kuon would never intentionally make Nanao feel like sh*t just to obscure his own feelings. Hayate, unlike Kuon, is irrefutably self-absorbed. If he really had Kousaka's well-being/feelings in mind, then why would he forcibly kiss Kousaka after all those years of treating him like dirt and making him feel unwelcome at home? Doesn't that ruin the point of his harsh actions towards Kousaka? Moreover, it's because of Hayate's actions that Kousaka had developed a severe inferiority complex and speech issues.
On a side note, I can't stand possessive people who have double standards. Hayate doesn't have the right to feel frustrated over Kousaka being with someone else. Wasn't Hayate the one who brought girls inside the house and slept with them right next to the room Kousaka was in? That level of insensitivity is just off the charts.
I absolutely could not agree more! Kuon is a great brother to Towa, just overprotective because he's such an airhead. And he only acts cold to Nanao in the beginning because of a misunderstanding and his overly serious personality. He never went out of his way to bully and humiliate Nanao.

oh wow, did you REALLY understand what i said ?, i was comparing kuon to hayate as a brother not a lover, more calmer-- i mean you read how serious is kuon when it comes to towa and his budding relationship with mikado, kuon is throwing daggers at mikado, while hayate with the cursing goes to kiss his brother then forget it all, he sees nao crying and inlove(that kiss is kinda goodbye kiss) then when he meet the said "love of nao" he is calm-- i mean ready to talk about nao's building up relationship with him. kuon never tried to take it like that right? he's like "you wanna die" but towas cuteness save it, brother complex works, leaving him to his own devices and just said to mikado to take care of his brother. AND about the possessive seme you talk about, hayate will, He is calm like that but because hes that protective of his brother side that we saw, what more to his uke, hes downright possessive as akagi stated. though "him" bringing girls when obviously nao can hear it ... i dont get that-- hayate is provoking nao but i dont know the reason why,, maybe sensei will make sense of it in the next ookami series.
first time hayate appeared he just looks like extra, i said that, but now, why author why? show him like that??? HOT and his attitude, omg we got another possessive seme story comingg~~ if he got one, he may not since he is not brokenhearted, he gave up and just want know what kind of guy his brother like, so mature thinking and when he speak, there goes cursing Lol. compare to kuon, he is more calmer but yeah i wonder what will happen to his uke, a wolf is still a wolf. lol.
