Didn't familiars exist in that town even before the kids got turned into one? Wonder what made them go crazy after the two kids went into hibernation, mayb miwako went crazy and bit everyone like chika?
from what i understand, weird accidents caused by the familiars (and the blood race?) continues to happen and made everyone leave the town, I don't know why they didn't go before, but its probably because the whole school massacre that finally made everyone realize
