I think you're right about the makeup but I think he is really a bully. I don't think it's light. He probably made fun of the main character for liking someone in school and bullied him cuz he likes him and doesn't want to admit it.
I agree, I think the MC and him were buddies in school and something happened in school or sum, and the MC cut off ties with his friends. I bet Mr Red is the teasing type and he just comes off as a bad guy rn to create suspense. plus the way MC reacted when he saw him wasn't horrible, he reacted like he saw an annoying friend
