This is absurd. I was hoping Venien was right but he still didn't answer . I was trying to find a ray of hope in the seme before proceeding to read it cause abusive semes and innocent desperate ukes who just stand there and take it irritate me.
In the manhwa king said he was tired if sex as something to cool steam off but instead wanted oneness ,body and hear,t with shenyu. Now i see he beats him cause he thinks shenyu snoops around with emperor...when he himself goes around f*ck other people. And in chapter 119 " all he could think about was shenyu"" are we supposed to sympathize with king of zhenbei now?ridiculous. What is the author thinking. You first said he brought shenyu because of information on his clan , then he was nice and protective to him as if he was his love, then he beat the shit out of him for believing he snooped around with emperor, then he fucks around with a prostitute, and after all this by saying he was thinking about shenyu while doing all these horrendous things, he is redeemed???? Nooo the only reason a seme's character is a tyrant and an absolute douche is to redeem him by gradual plausible, believable development and have him live happily ever after with uke......but no author just had to present a half assed developed character, king of zhenbei, to the uke and have uke pregnant to end the story ........bullshit

Actually the novel is really good, minus the abuse and the harem part (this is a historical drama so it’s a given). The parts I’m telling you are only the tip of the iceberg. There are really funny and unexpected things happening in the novel that you wouldn’t expect, and also secrets that will be revealed, especially when the king is trying to change himself for shen yu and try to win him back (of course it wouldn’t be easy). I swear the king is the sweetest. They wouldn’t make a webtoon if the novel wasn’t good.

of the(so called) good things he will do to win shenyu back . Offering a title at palace for example or leaving his Kingdom and status..... there's a limit to what someone can do to break a heart....this is the typical trope cliche manhwa of a sexy powerful womanizer seme and an innocent powerless uke ...the more meek the uke become the more seme likes , the more he roams roughly on ukes heart.
This manhwa message reminds me to beyonce and jayz relationship....beyonce is a fatal feminist but at the end of the day she went back to a cheating husband.
And why we go back to history to justify seme's behaviour. History happened but it wasn't right what they did. All of those kings are now an example of misogyny and patriarchy . we never had a true love 'ghazal' or sonnet about tyrant kings and their harem..... so blending history with love genre manhwa is pointless. We all know that this comics ,novels,manhwas are not a document on history. They are romances which usually aimed to service fans (fujoshis or girls) so if they want to use historical kings with numerous concubines which represent their power of monarchy, they shouldn't blend it with romance ;especially yaoi romance. Or if they want to write a manhwa about real tyrant kings and their abused lovers , they shouldn't sugarcoat or glamourize it by ending the story with a happy forgiving uke who easily ruins his self esteem by going back into arms of the same man who abused him

This is one of my fave part of the novel. When the king was already learning how to love. There’s a lot more especially when he’s already chasing Shen Yu, but here’s one:

This is the difference between a spoiler and reading the novel, this is where you feel the emotions overflowing in the authors words.
Most of the people who spoiled me were disheartened at the novel and almost everyone hates the manhwa raws in comments. I know that it's not really a wise thing to do if you judge a work based on spoilers...but most of the comics are not literature _some of the many rare pure manga or manhwas are beautifully written to be considered as literature, they are just comics so I allow myself to put their subject under scrutiny in order not to get dissapointed when I finish the comic. Also I have read enough manhwas, Japanese comics to know their tropes and cliches and I have figured that the best ones are the old ones. This piece of text which you mentioned, crying three times, it's so common in most manhwas about tyrant semes who didn't knew love but finally their loveless iced heart melts. I am personally the fan of strong independent ukes who value their heart enough to give only one chance to their lovers especially douchbag unbelievably abusive lovers like king of zhenbei or seungho from painter of the night.
Shenyu at the beginning of the novel was the typical cliche example of Stockholm syndrome who thinks the captive loves him . And king of zhenbei is the typical devil lecherous loveless character who didn't know love but by knowing it he will turn exceptionally good ...however, this is not the case here ...king of zhenbei's tiny development doesn't match his horrible deeds.
Also , please excuse my many questions but I have to ask.....why author presented an antagonist like hong lian(slave, prostitute, and one time saviour of shen from rape) who was the object of hatred by the readers and at the end of the novel suddenly hong lian become the side couple of song qi the bodyguard. As if hong lian was such a beautiful sympathy-struck character whom readers were hungry for his love partner and destiny.
Here’s the thing. I’m not arguing with you I’m just stating what I read from the novel, and I’m going to keep this short. I liked the novel Stockholm syndrome, yes, I agree, but Shen Yu will become smarter and cunning, as he will be able to speak, and as the story progress. I’m so curious why are you hating so much on Hong Lian? Hong Lian will be out of favored when Shen Yu left the palace, and he was paid to do it. Did your source even tell you that the king will marry a new concubine? I guess not, since you’re only pointing out Hong Lian from the very beginning. When in fact the new concubine is the most hateful one.
And by the way this cliche novels are literature in itself, (I’m not referring to the webtoon and comics here) but the novel, I’m not forcing you to like the novel, but this novel was a good read for me.

I hate the king when he had sex with honglian, but I never hated honglian. Why? Bec he was only an accessory to the kings plan. He never treated shenyu as his rival, and he never dreamed to be the king’s side consort. So, why are u hating on him so much when he was only paid to have sex with him. Why the king did it? It was for Shen Yu to go to emperor Yi. Why go to emperor Yi? Bec it has to do with Yunmengze and Junshanling. Ask your reliable source about it i don't want to explain. Shen yu’s weak? That was not love what dai rou had....she only loved herself her ego. If she the only sister of emperor and wife of king gets replaced by others what would she do...? It's okay you love the novel . But I think shenyu easily made clear that his self-esteem can be questioned by readers when he forgave a man who crushed his heart , abused him, and beat him because of suspected cheating while he himself went around cheating. You say that king of zhenbei wasn't truly in love with shenyu when he was planning to use honglian in order to drive away shenyu to empror...@Licht said the king said it himself that he didn't love him at this point ...but in later chapters king said the first time he cried was when shenyu was poisoned in palace by dai rou( assuming the poison incident was that which occurred by dai rou) this incident happened before honglian and the beating So king already had feelings for him when he abused him and f*cked around on him.
But if the author intended to portray tyrant kings of history who abused their beloveds and the author wanted to make readers hate king on purpose, then she was successful and it is a successful novel. But if she wanted to redeem king later on , she failed...just look at how many comments or readers stated their disappointment of king.
