He just kept a single heir of master as a 'get out of jail free' card. He knew he's gonna get killed by master someday and when that happens, he wanted to make sure master protects the kingdom since master's son will be the next ruler. It's the theory that lesser the amount of a valued items left in world, more valuable they would be. One son left out of hundreds is worthy than all hundred combined.
Is that a justification... For that suicide king...? He did it for a single kid? Or he did it for the sake of country by removing the civil war? Yet he sacrifice a lot of life though there is nothing innocence in war.. It just... I feel like the reason is too shallow or is the ending too fast? Like suddenly the war ended just like that. Kinda anti climatic..
