A story like these always left a bitter feeling in my chest. It's like they emphasized the fact if you aren't smart enough, cute enough, good enough than you don't deserved to be loved even worse they justified the abuse and the neglect. Why does the child are the one who need to change to win the adult affection? Why can't the adult for once tried to understand and reach out?

I had the same feelings. Even though the story is kind of confusing, what I understood was the MC was abused and bullied actively and passively which resulted in her gloomy and lifeless deposition, how does that justify adults treating her with contempt and indifference
but then again, considering the era with also the fact that being a noble, their principles are bound to be different.

What I felt a little angry at is, how the MC has genuine feelings for the brothers. I wouldn't hate them, but I wouldn't like them knowing how they didn't care enough for their sister to the point she took her own life.

I've seen it in Korean Dramas way too often, if the child is useless they just ignored them or push them way too far to the point of abuse. But that also happen in reality, maybe it has something to do with Korean culture that is very competitive and strike for perfection, so it's not strange if parent favor the smart and beautiful child.

Yeah, the grandfather think she is incompetent that investing on her would be useless, so does the brother, that's why they just turn a blind eye to the abuse. Even if they didn't beaten her, negligence also a form of abuse. but now that she is proved her worth, they started to show interest, they only think of her as a tool that could benefit the house. Is the love you obtained after putting in so much effort worth it? What if you fail to meet their expectation? That so called love would shatter so easily.

Its mainly Asian culture that focuses alot on talent and intellect lol. nerds are the ultimate cool people haha.

As much as I don't like their family, I can understand the concept of their society that made them that way. I just want the MC to understand this and maintain a professional distance in her heart instead of going bathump bathump over their beauty and letting them pet her head or what not
