first of all, rape is rape, no matter what it is. heat or rut are conditions determined by the brain controlling the release of hormones and how the body responds to these hormones. it's appropriate to liken it to a state of intoxication, such as being drunk or high. and drunk or high people raping other people is still considered a crime, because many people have been drunk or high before, but not everyone rapes. it's not the condition to blame, it's the person.
so yeah, being affected by someone's heat is not a valid reason to excuse rape. i could go about how the human brain can be differed than animals with our ability to comprehend morality, therefore putting an inhibition in how we as humans act and interact with one another, but it'll be long and there are academic journals that would explain them better. the thing is, omegaverse, despite being fictional, is still set in a universe where humans have the same brains with the same capability of making a decision on what is right or wrong (assuming they are mentally capable).
of course, omegaverse is sort of a no man's land, so you can interpret it as you wish. i just choose to believe in the ability of humans to recognise good from bad. it's fictional, i get it, i'm not telling people to go to jail over reading some rapey yaoi manga. i just feel sad that there's this universe with so many untapped potential to discover, and people just reduce it as some cheap way to excuse rape.
