Well to us it might seem impossible for them not to notice but I think the author intended for them to have no clue about the abuse....although it should have been obvious and they are smart but I guess the author wrote it as they didn’t know about the abuse and suffering
A little weird but if you read it like that it’s a little easier to accept the family because I think they get closer later on and it won’t sit right if they are hated....
I remember though that the grandpa knew to a certain extent, but didn't do anything about it because it wasn't so severe? I'm guessing maybe he did not know it was that bad, but it's not like he didn't know it was happening so honestly it doesn't sit entirely right with me
they only cared for her when she started being useful smh. Hypocrites
