The problem lies in her heart! We usually prefer MC that does not attack others without being attacked first...or at least does not harm other willingly... so while I can relate, it's not like she is that likeable, and you can see that she is rushing to get results, without enough planning.. and you can do nothing about the plot armour and the aura of the protagonist!

honestly it depends...
I'm not saying that she is a good or likeable person, she is an interesting character and could be an interesting protag as well if she was given proper grows as a character
what I mean is that if we were watching her story from the beginning - from childhood - we tbh would cheer for her or at least be more positive towards her (like in usual stories where neglected/bullied/etc child gets revenge or rises above all)

agreed! Though her plans are a bit dumb or easily seen through at times(plus with her rushing somethings) if she had a protag halo, her thinking/plans would've seen much smarter and gone smoother. Plus can't help it that she appears lacking in intelligence and schemes when compared to MC, I mean MC's traveled so many worlds. She definitely experienced and learned how to deal with this type of female before. Whereas she has no prior experience like MC. She's definitely not the most morally upright person either but i would've loved to see her as a protagonist. Like you said, she's cunning, quick-witted, determined, knows when to quit to cut her losses, and ruthless(not to just her enemies but herself as well). She would've been a interesting character to watch as she develops on her journey to becoming empress. Her only real flaw imo is that she isn't as easily likeable due to her cruelty and being TOO ruthless. She not able to build real connections other than viewing ppl as who she can use to achieve her goals. Even her mom, her supposed closest person and supporter, was sacrificed when it came down to it. Though that flaw is cause she's the villain and as the villain, it's mandatory that her IQ is low, she's rash, and cruel. So she can be easily hated.

I agree with you, except that one of her motive is an obstacle for to be a real mc or likeable, and that's her reason to become empress. Her thirst for power is obvious and unlike other ruthless and witty mcs her reason for this lust is not solid enough. Of course that might be just me, I just like when the motives and reasons of a character is understandable, not likeable but understandable. The reason she gave us that she saw the empress and wanted to be like her. No background whatsoever. Moreover her apparent fail to see flaws in her plan of wooing the emperor (over and over) is also making her repulsive reader (or at least me).
Agreed, theres only so much that plot armour can smooth over, her constant need to beat a dead horse is something that would piss me off whether she was the mc or not. The only reason her plans don't cause her demise is again plot armour, (can't kill her off just yet) and her idiotic father.
