Honestly I don't find this stupid ass as a "bad" character, he's frustrating but active and entertaining, spices up the story that is very plain in concept.
The fault that I see is that he was not shown to us in any way as a stupid fool from the beginning, not even in hints of being clumsy or mishearing/misunderstanding something, so when all this shit is explained it feels like an excuse for the plot to be such a mess instead of a character exploration.
