I agree with you, but as a reader I don't feel, or it hasn't been shown well enough, that Mafuyu loves Ueno or has any strong romantic feelings for him. They really just feel like a pair of good extremely good friends helping each other.
Have you watched the anime? I get where you’re coming from. But for me, I feel like the impact ue has on mafuyu is very profound. He’s lost, repressing and broken. But ue pushes him, makes him come alive and gives him courage to just move. Even if he can’t move on completely, having ue by his side just spurs him on. While he’s singing to yuki he does mention that he has someone he loves again. And he confesses to ue. We have to understand that mafuyu is still very much repressed and stoic. But he’s trying to grow out of that. And in this journey ue is his companion in al the ways there is. I really hope to see ue say he loves mafuyu. They both need an intense love confession and lovemaking scene

For me, i really feel for both mafuyu and yuki... Moving on is really not easy, and especially when there's no one that can give you closure. And they're not even breaking up. They just had fight, it's going to stay bitter for them...so i really understand why mafuyu is being like that. While its true you shouldn't jump into another relationship when you still thingking about your ex. But I'm not sure that should be applied with mafuyu and ueno. Yuki is dead. It's not them having a bad break up. No matter how much mafuyu think about him, they can get back together. And they have been together forever, its not going to take only one year to forget that. And i think mafuyu is never going to forget yuki, he will always stay there. Just because yuki is still there in his mind doesn't mean he doesnt love euno guys.. you love differently everytime too. What about like this, you love your dad so much, he's always there for you and all but then he died suddenly. You're not going to just forget him right? You're going to remember him always but still manage to move on with life. I think Mafuyu just need ueno to hold him tightly so that he won't fall and help him. Ueno knows how much mafuyu love his ex, yet that doesn't stop him right?
