the reason why she isn't telling him stuff is that in the past he always hid things for her, almost expected her to just "get it" without communicating. Plus when she reached out to understand why he was upset with her, he never replied to her.
I'm seeing it like this: she wants to know if he's just passively enjoying their relationship without ever daring to ask anything and since in he past he always avoided ppl instead of talking it out like adults, she wants to see if he'll let her go without saying anything just because he doesn't want to "expose" himself and take a risk.
(it's messy lol but since I've read it basically all in one go it kinda makes sense to me. I don't like it, but it isn't completely crazy)
