You don't have to say it.... because it IS A BIG ISSUE...
and who doesn't see it that way has to go to therapy.
In this case she was not brutally attacked but everything that happened was still under great pressure and against her free will.
Yes she did not scream for help but she had no other choice... no escape...
she did not put up a fight just because she was afraid he would kill her...
People are more concerned that she "belonged" to his son so the act was immoral...
Instead of realizing that He did not give her free choice...
that is a main issue and everyone has to see it.

Here is the thing - there is a very distinct line between a general portrayal of rape in art, and between portraying the rape as something attractive and simulating.
The least the creators could have done was showing the rape scenes in a non sexual way, and further along the line when the characters dynamics change then give us actual smut.
Of course they didn't do that and that's fine, it's not anything new. But justifying it by the standard of the times is... well, bullshit. Never mind in which period of time it is, this is taking rape and making it look sexy. Also, the story is told by the pov of the fl, the one who is being raped. It makes literally zero sense to showcase her rape under a sexual light.
Honestly I don't even care for rape in comics forms usually (unless there is some very sick things that I can't take), and that applies for this story as well - but we shouldn't excuse it. It's never ok or merciful. Rape can't be merciful since rape is not a merciful thing.

it was not portrayed differently because the girl that was RAPED. did not see it as such.
it's about standards of society of the time and her own perception of the act itself.
even now in the courts men say that the girl was not screaming 'NO' so it can't be considered as a rape. and the judges accept it spitting on the fact that the girl had a knife at her throat.
things like that happen and it is good for us, girls to realize that even if they are not brutal about it... it is still forced.
if something like that happened in reality most of the girls would not even realize they were actually being rapped.
so this was a great example to make us think about it and help us say NO... even when offenders' actions do not seem aggressive.

I think you took my comment to a non related place (the real life trials etc). What I'm trying to say is that the way the rape was showed here *visually* did no justice to the victim and that there is no relevance to the time it was made. Also, I didn't view it this way at all - almost every person in mangamanhwaetc that gets violated just to fall in love with his rapist usually says no. I don't see how this is any different in this case.
There is a thing called framing in art, and that includes stories, tv and cinema, comics etc. Framing means that the creator takes things and manipulate them in order to make a point or make the readers to feel in a certain way. The framing of the rape scene (which honesty I find hard to call rape scene when there are some amazing ans shocking rape scenes out there that gave the victims the respect and still showed their experience) here is no different then any other consensual smut scene ever. And that is inexcusable.
It's graphic, it makes things seem attractive and sensual. It has nothing that makes the reader think "oh, thats rape and this is horrible". The only thing that makes you feel like its rape is knowing the background. Also, it seems like the framing kind of worked on you, since you said "at least he was merciful" - you would never say that in the context of a real life rape. That's the power of framing. It's impotent for me to state that I'm not blaming you, I just think you might have fell for it without really understanding.
In comparison, a MUCH better rape seance you can see in "Saezuru Tori wa Habatakanai" in both chapters 2 and 8. I suggest you compare them both and see the obvious flaws the framing in this scene has.

I couldn't have said it any better. If the author wanted to portray the stigma against rape victims within this society, or the mc's own confusion about whether what she experienced truly constituted as rape (as the previous person I believe was implying), this wasn't the way to go about it. There isn't anyway to spin this story's framing and representation to make it seem socially aware. But I'll still read it haha
Lmao bro this was rape
