I believe that eren didn’t do what he did for himself if it was kinda of revenge for his family he could take it on rainner and the others not on the fuking whole world he was as he said so disappointed when he knew that behind the walls was just people while he and all the others on the island was suffering starving living their lives like som kinda of flock always afraid of the titans and hundreds of them died to find a way to kill all titans so they could live their life’s , beside he tried to make peace and develop paradise island but he saw there is no point in all of this the entire world wants them to die so it was like that either they or the entire world and he choose the island he sacrificed himself for the sakes of his people life’s and freedom , and He knows that even after his death he will feel the burden of this guilt

I think he was free to chose how to end his life? To use his life to make them understand that it was because of them that he became the way he is? That his choice was what made everyone come together in both bad and good to stop him, the common enemy. Maybe that was his freedom? And perhaps the only one who truly knew his thoughts was Historia...?
