I think the guest shouldn't also have reacted that way too, after all they are in a foreign country with a country they rarely interact with, it's against and hated in his religion to do what he did.
But I guess as you said the setting kind of called for it, even though I think this is a sensitive thing to treat so hastly (or is it just me?) Since I think there are many islamophobes out there, but I guess the writer can't really care about everyone's circumstances when writing that so I understand, I mean as long as they didn't insult the religion personally I guess

As a Muslim Myself, I'm Kinda Laughing At today's chapter XD It's true that it must be cut the right way and when serving people you don't know, you must try to learn about them,
but it's also half of the eastern Halidom fault, I mean coming in without an Invitation and when being served they make a fuss about how It's not Halal! Bruh...
but I do kinda get it, the setting of this story is wayyyyyy back in the past like 18something, and humans have not come to accept differences yet.
