I doubt it happens often though. First of all, a business with joint liability is stupid asf, you usually take investment in the name of your company and your company (as a "person") will be the one taking that debt.
Atleast thats how it works in Canada.
Also how can you find peoole stupid enough to invest in a business that isn't official and hasn't even started (aka riskt as fuck).
Not to mention, the uke made this deal with the friend of his friend. He didn't even bother to get to know to guy : his family / where he lives / his ID. Like bruh.... if you aren't the one holding the money, you gotta be careful. But he must blindly went into it.
I do think it happens, but i think its quite rare.
I am Korean so I know these kind of cases happen often in Korea. Making people invest in ghost company is one if the most common type of scam and it makes a lot of people go in debt. Investing is always high risk high gain so people looking to gain profit will invest in start-up lesser known companies. That is how investment works. Also, In order for the company to be separate identity from the owner, the business has to run as a corporation. And it is very difficult for start ups to has corporation as a business structure because it is very costly, complicated, and need a lot of manpower and high credibility to run. The starting business is usually starts as either sole proprietor (owner takes all risk) or partnership (joint liability).
Well i think it's weird that many people actually invest in these. (Especially if they aren't rich). Especially in a Korean since you just said that these scams happens a lot.
It's really bad if this is a regular scam. It shows how bad the system is. But I would still say the people involved are way too careless. A joint liability is one of the worst that you can do, it shall be used very carefully. And same for investing in a start-up company.
Well thanks for the info. It still feels overdramatic stuff (because for me that's something i would never do). But now know this is reality for Korea. Also I think it would have been better if the uke's friend was the one who directly tricked him. I'm still mad the uke blindly trusted the friend of a friend...

The uke's(2nd couple) past is stupid asf though. How come he made himself responsible of the money others invested in that business....Just how stupid can you be to do that when you aren't even the one who has that money in your possession.
Atleast we saw that thief again so he will probably get caught eventually
