They originally met as kids and the one who made the wish was the duke. So the magic wasn't from the FL. It was from the ML. FL is just a medium for the magic to activate. They died and time turned back because of the mom's magic (not sure???) making sure than FL will not die until the magic is complete.

Remember when the FL 'died'? Its probably because of that. The FL is the medium of the magic and as her mother said, she can't be killed. So maybe it has something to do when the FL was 'killed'.
