THIS!!!
Even though I'm white and will NEVER understand black people's pain, I got to see it. I grew up knowing that black people were hated solely because of their skin color; but since I had never actually seen it with my eyes, somehow in my mind, maybe I thought that "racism in the 21th century doesn't happen that much".
Until, a few years ago, I went with some friends buy alcohol. We weren't old enough for that, vut since I was tall, I easily could buy it by myself. I wanted my best friend, who's black, to help me bring it. She declined, explaining that if the cops saw her with her with alcohol even tho she was underrage, "who knows what might happen to her". After some time, I was struggling with carrying all the beers by myself, so she helped me. And kindness got her arrestated.
For 15 whole minutes, me, a white girl, carried beers without anyone bothering, but as soon as my black friend carried them, the cops came. Worse than that ? I was carrying some beers too, but they didn't ask about me. Only her.
This world is way too cruel towards POC. The hatred I felt that day must've been nothing compared to what my best friend must have felt. People make so many jokes about BLM when they're not even black, which gives them absolutly NO RIGHT to laugh about it, and proper black representation is so hard to find. I've seen so many ppl hate on black main characters just because they're POC.
I hope the world changes. The way the man in this manwha was portrayed is disgusting. And this is not the first time I've seen a manwha portray a black character this kind of way. It's always a muscular, tall, feminine man with white lips. Give black people the representation they deserve.

Thank you SO MUCH for understanding and talking about your experience. It really helps people understand that we are not making this shit up. Some people in the comments claimed to be a person with dark skin but then proceeded to invalidate our feelings and call us racist for complaining about how the character was portrayed. It’s literally so frustrating and disgusting. We can’t explain how we’re dissatisfied with the way a character is drawn without someone coming in to defend the author and make excuses for them. It’s so annoying how people constantly do that then say we’re “overreacting” or we’re “trying to ruin the author’s reputation.” No we’re just fed up and tired of authors drawing us inaccurately and thinking its acceptable.

I'm really sad to hear that :( I can't even imagine how hurtful this must be for you to see people who' are going through the same stuff as you but still don't understand how harmful this kind of portrayal can be.
You have every right to be mad and I wish more people were able to understand that.
Please take care of yourself and stay safe !! Have a great day/night <3

Y'know, ugly black people exist. And even ignoring that, the vast majority does have big lips so they should be drawn as such, otherwise they're just white people with brown slapped on where peach would be previously. I'd be happy to get any kind of representation from a country that's 97% homogenous. I can understand looking for a different series (which there are way more of than you think) or being upset at a very clearly racist depiction, but the character is portrayed as a good person and he's far from ugly. The only problem I can see is that the lip colour is slightly off but what do you expect when the artist has probably never seen a real black person?

Okay so you don't have a problem with the character, fine, you don't see a problem with the lips, fine, but as we have feel offended by this can we leave it at that.
We don't like it, we've said so and we don't need people telling us that our opinions are wrong.
Whether or not an artist has seen a black person is not an excuse to be ignorant, even if they weren't trying to offend anyone they did, due to a lack of research.
I'm not going to try and convince you that you're wrong here but there's no need to go around calling us 'fake otakus' for disagreeing with an artist/authors depiction of a person.

Black people still exist in korea. Lots of them are models and yk......the internet exists bro. If other webtoons artists can accurate draw people with dark skin, so can this author. Also, due to the recent injustices in america, things like BLM have reached news across many different countries like Korea. Thats why BTS donated over 1 million to BLM. I think koreans know what black people look like. Also, no, the vast majority of black people don’t have big lips, thats a common stereotype. Most black people have medium to large sized lips. It’s a big mixture. And yes I do have a problem with the color of the lips. You don’t need to see a real black person to know how to draw them when million of references exist on the internet. And you want to be represented like this then great! Clearly a lot of other black ppl and other pocs don’t want to and have an issue with this character.

No joke. I thought he was cute. Ugly would be 1950z Disney make ups. This man had sweet blue eyes, full lips, shining hair, and coco skin. And he was shown as kind and pretty. I fail to see the issue. NGL. But hey. I guess some people thought he was unattractive. Thats bot a fault of the character. But rather they just aint attracted to men of color lol. I think.

Hi excuse me. I have a question since I really don't know what I should feel about this.
So basically, i went to the US for months because of university and i'm Asian. So you see, I don't really hate or I don't hate and Im not hating on black people but because im not used to or not comfortable with "aggressive" actions (idk how to explain it but i wasnt comfortable with how they approach people) since i get startled easily (and for some health reasons, loud voices really trigger something inside me), also is it just because those who i met were just really rude or that's just how they are (i mean they're just loud and that's just how they approach ppl?)
but is it considered me being a racist or what?
*well i feel the same way with the whites tho, because i also met rude whites*

I do like how he looks. I didnt read to much into it either. You being snide. Is it his lips u dont like? Do his full lips offend u? Is it his eyes you dont like? You mean the crystal clear blue eyez? Is it his hair? Did anything in the manga protray him as ugly? Anything? Did the characters go "ewww, what an ugly shop keep"? Was he treated differently because of his skin color?
Was it his facial structure?is that it?
Its a "How we feel huh?" Do you know what race I am? Ill tell u now. It dosnt fucking matter. Ive seen actual racist art. This isnt even the cake. Your mad cause u think hes ugly. Down right insulting the author actually. You want respect? You want representation. Great. This tho. What your doing right now. Think about it.
Its an opinion. Not a fact. You and some others think that cute shop keep is a butterface. Why? The fuck if I know. I dont see ANY mishapen features. Just hislips color. Did you want him to be a dark skinned small lipped skinny boy? Would you even be able to telm his race them? No. Youd just think hes a tanned white guy. Racial profiling sux ass. What sucks more ass tho? This entire issue from two pannels of a shop keep beacuse you shallow people think looks are everything. Do you want actual racist art? Look at 99% of old Disney cartoons. Or even old anti jewish art.

Girl what- Not all black people are loud . Being a loud person isn’t even a aggressive action they’re just a loud person. I don’t know what you were trying to say with this paragraph... You don’t like black people because they are loud and aggressive???? All black people aren’t loud and aggressive that’s just a stereotype. Why are you grouping all black people together based on a few actions of some??? It might just be a cultural thing in the area of your university since you said there are whites that are like this too. There are plenty of “loud” asian people in places like California because that’s just the culture over there. You shouldn’t dislike a whole race of people because of your few experiences with a few people. I’ve meant plenty of racist white people who have treated me terrible and called me slurs, but I’m not going to dislike all white people because I have some extremely amazing white friends who aren’t racist at all.
For centuries dark skin has been seen as dirty, evil, unattractive, and inferior in many different races and cultures. Dark skin has never been the beauty standard throughout the majority of the world. Although people are starting to celebrate and embrace their dark skin tone, racism towards people with darker skin tones is still a very prevalent thing.
Now the way this side character with tan skin has been drawn may not be a big deal to some of you, but for most bipocs it is. We have very little representation in manhwa, anime, and manga already, so when an author portrays us in an insulting way it hurts. We all don’t have huge lips and we definitely don’t have pale white/yellow lips. I honestly do not know why the author has drawn us in this way when there are many manhwas out there that don’t draw their dark-skinned characters in this way. We don’t look like this so I don’t understand why they would portray us in this way and it hurts.
If you scroll back in the comments, one of the commenters even calls this character ugly and that just shows a lot. This character was drawn with outlandish features to be made extremely unattractive compared to the other pale characters with Eurocentric features. By drawing this character in this way further perpetuates that being a person with darker skin and non-Eurocentric features makes you ugly. This is why we rather have no representation than inaccurate representation because it is harmful.
Fiction can form the way certain people see others especially if they don’t live in a diverse country. In many countries, whitening creams are constantly advertised and most famous actors are ones with pale skin and eurocentric features. If the media you consume constantly pushes paler/whiter skin is more beautiful and better then people are going to see darker skin as lesser. That's why skin whiting is such a big issue in many countries.
So please please please listen to the voices of people with darker skin tones and understand why they are unhappy with the way this character is drawn and why they no longer want to support this manhwa. Thank you!
