i wish to know too, but from what i understood he didnt forget her on purposse, it has sometinhg to do with her mother bloodline, that make him forgot..
he clearly knows he is responsable for what happened and her well been, he also know the fate of those with jewelled eyes, so he is thinking:
"my child who i abandoned have felt hunger all her life, been alone, has a fate to die or been unlucky chased by herpower all her life, i wish i could just get her to live peacefully with out worry's, just been happy for the rest of her life"

My guess is;
Because of the mother’s bloodline he forgot everything about the wife and the unborn child since his memories of Estrella are linked to the mother. She was in the womb at the time. The mother died giving birth so if he wasn’t there during the delivery it’s natural he wouldn’t remember the child existence. It’ll be different if he was there because he’d remember the child since he is physically there with the child but will forget the mother. I think that family bloodline power / curse is more powerful than the divine power the royal family possess.
i love that her dad is showing her affection but its somewhat unrealistic... he never knew her and was taught from childhood not to show your emotions but he gets angry at a priest for doing his job... all he was taught was instilled in him it cant just disappear at the drop of a hat.
