Alan created (not passed on) a curse to make Douglas slowly weaken to death. Then they threw him on the streets to die.
Douglas frees himself from the curse so it returns to its original owner.
And now they’re blaming Douglas for having the gall to not want to die. “You have no empathy!” Shit man you were the ones who created the curse in the first place out of jealousy.
