I've always been bothered by the lack of manipulation and secrecy in historical stories (I am a slut for them) but this story really feeds my hunger for it. Theres this constant tension throughout the story that really puts you in the queens shoes as she suffocated by the scheming individuals that want to harm her and her family. And I love it. I generally dont like historical/reincarnation stories because I'm tired of the naive, happy go lucky girls who have been reincarnated into the historical world after they died in the modern world. But this caught my attention, I loved how it still uses the reincarnation aspect but it helps the narrative as she uses her past experience to fuel her and aid her journey. I love how shes very tough and harsh and takes her role as a queen seriously. I love the secrecy and tension this story holds. I also love the mystery behind the prince and his relationship with rose. But while all these characters are seen cold-hearted and manipulative, I still love how the author bring moments of vulnerability to create a dimensional background for us to sympathize with the characters.
(Sorry for that word block but I cant help but gush over this story. Also can someone like love and help the emperor?!?! The poor guy is getting manipulated by the girl he loves. I honestly think that rose loves the prince but in a toxic way. But I love this implied slow burn between the empress and emperor)
