I saw the anime and read the manga afterwards.
The manga is better, the ending is perfect: bittersweet like most real first loves.
Also: the protagonists made each other better people. But they couldn't be together without risking their dreams, sometimes those opportunities don't appear twice.
I wish George and Yukari got together, but in the Japanese live action version they got together. Boohoo (=・ω・=)
