This suicide attempt doesn’t fit with the character I think

I don't think it's an attempt though. (just like you said, it doesn't suits him)

I'm guessing he got scared by the "persona" he was seeing and decided to take the antipsychotic (probably) pills to stop it, to the point of accidentally overdosing himself
