Antarc might not have cared for Phos and just put up with them at the beginning, but as the winter passed they both got closer to each other. Antarc even saved Phos at the expense of their life, so I’d say by the time Antarc died they cared for Phos.
or just don't want Sensei to be sadden by Phos death in case they failed to protect Phos.
but yeah I can see where you're coming from, Antarc is up there on the top of list of gems who care about Phos

I don't understand how people can ship phos with anyone, at least for me, no one in this universe seems to truly care for them, even cinnabar only took interest on them because of a promise that would only benefit themselve. To me there were only three characters that acted decently towards phos: ghost quartz, barbata and that big lunarian that phos slept on in the wedding. Everyone else (even sensei) either dismissed phos or hated them for no reason.
