I think you misunderstood them. It's probably because tone is hard to understand in text. The reason why they wrote "Like we aren't all here reading it for free" is supposed to be read in a sarcastic tone. In context, we can restate this as "It's not like we have to pay to read this so there's no need to be so harsh".
