People are expecting him to be some morally right person. I mean dude he wants REVENGE, something that can drive a person mad, try putting yourself in his shoes. His character is not written how you would want him to act, but more realistically how one would act in a story like his.
It would end on a good note if Ian could change him and show him the right path.
