This is only a theory, which I have two of which can both either be wrong or correlating, granny knows that rakan favored mao mao’s mother, and assuming she had to take more customers afterwards, granny might not know who the father is and assumes rakan just wants mao mao because they look similar, and has never had any actual intention of giving mao mao to rakan probably because she resents him for what he had done to mao maos mother, who from my understanding was someone very important in the brothel. From my personal understanding little to no one knew of rakans and mao maos mothers relationship, so most would think of rakan as some perverted old man, which probably echoed back into mao maos ears, as such to mao mao rakan is only some perverted terrible old man who only wished to be the first to pluck a famous courtesan.

I like that theory but I don't think granny would care so much about mao mao's wellbeing, she was planning to sell him to some random pervert when she returned from the palace after all

She doesnt hate him, she was just traumatized as a child of a creepy bloody (cause the granny would always beat him) old man with a gross smile that would try to take her away claiming to be her father. She doesnt blame him as well, cause as someone who grew up in the brothel, she knows that the courtesans had the knowledge how to prevent/abort pregnancy, so her mother getting pregnant with her was probably her plan all along. Its just that Rakan being away at that time was not part of her plan.

i think her hatred of him goes further tho, from her pov, he ruined her mom's life by getting her pregnant with ran mao and ditched.

No she doesnt hate him for getting her mother pregnant. As i've said in the previous spoiler, in the novel, according to mao mao she does not feel anything about him. In her own words...spoiler alert...

As courtesans, they are required to drink contraceptive or abortion drugs, so her mother intended for her to get pregnant. Also, from Mao mao to Jinshi "Women are sly beings".
If someone with a bloody face suddenly appeared and extend their hand at you while smiling grossly saying that he is your father, anyone would be scared, much less a child, according to Mao mao.
She hated him not for getting her mom pregnant but for trying to take the role of father from Roumen, her adoptive dad. For her, Roumen is her dad, not some wierdo who suddenly appeared. But she does not resent him, hate and resentment are different according to her.
