I guess they could, but the fact that they looked almost exactly the same during this scene added to the parallelism of who they were and how different they've become/the duality that was between them all these years and that Nine finally managed to reverse the power roles, so as much as it may have been confusing I feel it it would be waaay less better than if they were too different
