Duke Alpheus

I really don't know what to feel about him. He's so confusing. He gives aide to Anastacius but don't want to participate in treason. He takes care of Jeannette in hopes of rising to more absolute power by making Claude acknowledge her as a princess, but he never mistreated Jeannette and doesn't view her negatively. He's power hungry for sure, but is it safe to say he's not inherently evil? Or he just doesn't want to dirty his hands? I mean, he's a good father to Ezekiel. He doesn't seem to bear ill will towards Claude either.

Like Jeannette, he's not much focused on in the novel that's why I feel there's loose ends in creating his manhwa character.

So how I feel like he’s also being manipulated like by his power of somethings else. His eyes goes red and he starts to talking evilly. Cuz if u see when he was young, he and Claude for sure got along but defiantly something happened after him not allowed to be heir cuz he don’t got his magic or somthing

I think you mistook my thoughts for Anastacius (black-haired man), I'm talking about Duke Alpheus (white haired man)

If it's about Anastacius, I do know he is being influenced by Aeternitas (one of the previous Obelian kings who got rejected by Claude for being 'incompetent') but I don't know the extent of the manipulation. This is not how it's supposed to go in the novel, after all.

I know, but I'm talking about his chore character which is outside of the obvious black magic manipulation.

I love your viewpoint. No one's ever mentioned Mr. White's personality in complex in the comment section before.

I think yes he is indeed very power-hungry but more in a somewhat genuine sense? He's never come off as selfish or unreasonable to me. Having Jeanette would mean a free-pass to the throne because, if plans succeed with getting rid of Athanasia, Jeanette would become the heir. Ijekiel would obviously be her husband and then he'd ultimately rise to power through her. Not only will Robert be praised for whatever sneaky plan he was able to pull through with, but his son would also be able to benefit from it as well. He's never treated Jeanette with affection and only focused on Ijekiel, so as to why she's hell-bent on being in a family. Jeanette's mentioned before that she's always felt a barrier between her and the Alpheus men. Robert's also mentioned how, if all else fails, he'd without a doubt save Ijekiel over Jeanette. Putting those two together, we can safely assume he's doing everything for his son but doesn't wish to be pulled into the scheme too deep in order to stand back up by defense.

I don't recall much about him in the novel which is why I love the manhwa's route where it shows us that none of them are two-dimensional characters in any way. But I do recall reading something about his wife aka Ijekiel's mother. idk if it's canon or fanmade but it talked about how Robert felt guilty for "abandoning" his wife and in a way Ijekiel felt frustrated towards him because of it. So he might be trying to give back/repent for whatever he did in the past.

Oh lol, but ur right bout the white haired dude. It’s kinda confusing about what’s going on his mind and his real intention either it was on purpose and there’s more to it or there’s holes in this character

    Thank you for the explanations!

I honestly felt that the novel The Original Princess (the one Athy knows) just hastily dubbed him as one of the villains because it's easier. Did he actively participate in getting rid of Athanasia? (I don't remember) Because if not, then I honestly think he's one of the grey characters I actually admire. And if the bit about abandoning the wife is true, then I acknowledge that he was a shit husband, but it's good that he's trying to make up for it through Ezekiel. He's a good dad, honestly. This manhwa shows that Ezekiel truly respects him as a father.

Like what you said, it's lovely that the manhwa expands more on their characters. I hate it when the story only dubs someone is evil because it is their role.
