they don't, the whole like message is that sometimes "destiny" or whatever doesn't mean anything and you gotta like follow your heart and they're basically defying social norms by not choosing to be with their fated pairs but its also for the best because taiga clearly loved what's his name but they were being kept apart by the whole idea of destiny and it almost ruined them, same with the main couple, they were being kept apart by the idea there was a more suitable person out there for the there person even though they had really strong feelings for each other
