At the latter date he felt guilty so instead of giving him the poisoned food he ate it himself? The incident about the maid poisoning happened only one time on that tea scene. Previously, she saw the other maid's head cut off from her neck. She want to kill Tasara cause she thought that what if she'll die next? Lol I don't know. He did put the poison in the food, like he was told to do for his sisters sake, for a little in the beginning. However he not only stopped pretty early on but took it instead so that the poison still registered to the priests as being consumed. We at least know that the time he was taking the poison instead of the prince was king enough for him to be super confused why the prince wasn’t recovering
