Hmmm yes, now that i think about it. He might also have stayed out of sense of duty (being a spouse etc). So it could be both of those. Im just gonna inagine that the mistreatment never had a chance to happen as the MC essentially deleted that timeline lol. Only fluff is allowed in this house ヾ(❀╹◡╹)ノ~

The novel explains it better I think. At this point, neither of them are in love. This is why it says "Jing Shai is unsure how he feels about this person." He feels extremely grateful to his wife for carrying out his duty so kindly in their past life despite being really really badly mistreated. Now, he wants to stay loyal to his wife out of a sense of duty but later they both will fall in love

Yes, this is what I mean. Jun Qing stayed out of duty (regardless if he had anywhere else to go), and Jing Shao wishes to repay that kindness. They choose to work with each other and in the process fell in love (like 20 chapters or more into the novel if I recall correctly) which for me is much more lovely and believable, rather than having one party already in love with the other.
Well........ He didn't really have a choice but to die right. Thats why he died with him. Not because of love. ╮( ̄▽ ̄)╭ but its great that he's not mistreated anymore. ( ̄へ ̄)
