He isn't denying it and almost everyone in that position would have done the same, because this manwha is so manichaean (meaning there's just good and and evil and no in-between), he's immediately seen as bad when his reaction is perfectly normal, you want feign ignorance in most cases when there's something "bad" happening in front of you
i mean I would argue that's not the position almost everyone would have taken. but it is a position that some would have, and i acknowledge that but that still doesn't excuse it. from the FLs perspective he could have done something but he chose not to and that ultimately resulted in the OG FL's death, and you can't excuse that. his cowardice literally causes someone to die even if he doesn't know that, regardless of what other people would have done, morally you can't excuse that
