If you read the novel, you know it’s about his insecurities. He felt like there was nothing he could give her and that made him feel worthless. With other females, he could give them jewelry and money but since she wanted none of that, he felt that he had no real significance to her. And no one ever taught him how to be in a proper relationship or even bond correctly with someone. He’s never had a real bond so he doesn’t know how to create or stay in one
Well he had a real bond with his twin brother in all its complicated glory, but that also ended really badly for all parties involved so, yeah. He's got a long way to go until he figures his shit out
I read a third of the novel but idnrt wanna spoil myself too much but I get it, that's partially why I ain't mad at him since he never really connected to people well enough to care for them or their needs, but I feel like his "care for her" as of now is still shallow since he's not genuinely even wanting to know her and what she's gone through, that's why he's doing everything but go to her, he's doing it just to ease his guilt?? You get me

It’s part guilt, part worry. But it is shallow and that’s how it should be at the moment. Because if he jumped straight into the depth, it would skip his growth stage. And at that point, it would feel even more shallow because, it’s sudden and we wouldn’t see him learn how to bond. I like how it is. And he is starting question their relationship and the lack of communication in feelings. It’s a start
