They kind of explain why she was such a B@tch in this chapter. It is because she is keeping all of her emotions in and just doesn't feel except when it come to kyoko which is probably because she had her at a young age with a man that did not last and she can't stand that fact and takes it out on kyoko. Also it was not supposed to be climatic, but an awkward funny scene.
That was anti-climatic. Hopefully the next chapter gets somewhere further with her mom, like whose her father and why she's really such a b@tch.
