I also believe that. But I'm guessing his mom didn't know what was going on (I mean, it's possible that the didn't beat her up, so when he started beating the kid, she didn't know). But that's only my impression.

It actually happens far more than you might think, unfortunately. My Gran left her six kids with their abusive father (she knew it was happening) and I know some other cases as well.

I honestly can't believe a mother would EVER leave her child with a man who is extremely violent. That seems quite far fetched... but other than that detail, I enjoyed the story! The kitty cat was just about the cutest thing ever! (who DOESN'T enjoy animals or cute little kids in manga!?)
