Could he have tried making the tea in one pot and somehow burned it, along with whatever sugar and whatnot that he put in it? The sugar is the only thing I can think of that would have that sticky, syrupy texture, then I imagine adding in the tea and whatever else he put in it into the mixture....
I'm only guessing and I'm guessing that he didn't use a tea kettle or anything in that attempt and just threw everything into a pot

Still wondering how you mess up tea THAT bad. I get it could be super bitter so easily but it shouldn't be to the point where it's inedible, unless he's adding salt instead of sugar this whole time.
