I'm a little suspicious of the best friend, but I don't hate him. I think he reacted so seriously because in the panel it looks like blood is seeping through the bandage. If you go back and look, you'll see two red spots on the bandage when the best friend notices.

If my best friend suddenly showed up with a mysterious wound on their neck with blood seeping through a bandage, I would probably be pretty concerned as well! I mean, I wouldn't grab their shirt and demand answers, but I would definitely be concerned and ask what happened.
